Requesting German and Indian scripts and plots for movies with a potential for coproduction // IndoGerman Script Development Workshop from February 6th to 9th, 2012 and International Content Summit: Focus India, February 8th, 2012 in Berlin
Life Entertainment & MAMIInternational Content Summit: Focus India on February 8th, 2012, brings together reputed and renowned representatives of Germany's and India's film industry. From India we are proud to welcome Shyam Benegal (Head of the Federation of Film Societies of India, to be confirmed), Rajkumar Hirani (director of 3idiots), Anurag Kashyap (author, director and producer; Black Friday, Dev D.), Dina Dattani (lawyer; Fox International, Slumdog Millionaire) and Anjum Rajabali (author of Raajneeti; Head of Screenwriting Department at FTII & Whistling Woods). Among the German speakers are: Sigrid Narjes (CEO Above the Line), directors Marcus Goller (Friendship!) and Tom Tykwer (Cloud Atlas; to be confirmed), Jochen Brunow (Head of Screenwriting Academy at dffb), Torsten Schulz (Head of the Department of Screenwriting at HFF Babelsberg), Stephan Holl (managing partner RapidEye Movies, German distributer of Indian movies in Germany), Mathias Schwerbrock (Filmbase Berlin), Christine Berg (DFFF/FFA), scriptwriter Georg Heinzen (Gran Paradiso), and Alexander Thies (CEO of the NFP and Chairman of the German Producers Alliance), the latter of which will also open the workshop.
This year's October had already successfully gather together German and Indian film makers for the first time. At the Script Development Workshop in Mumbai, India, opened by a keynote speech by Shyam Benegal and German consul general in Mumbai, Theo Heldman, some of the best script writers, directors and teachers discussed with interest and enthusiasm cross-cultural influences; how, and moreover, how well co-operations between ideas from both countries could work. Among the guests were Germany's writer/director Dani Levy ("Go for Zucker!"), Jochen Brunow, Torsten Schulz and Georg Heinzen, as well as India's Sooni Taraporevala ("Salaam Bombay"), Anjum Rajabali, Anusha Rizvi ("Peepli Live") and Akshat Verma ("Dehli Belly"). Furthermore, Indian lawyer Dina Dattani and German lawyer Andreas Peschel-Mehner informed in a seminar about "Legal Framework in IndoGerman Co-productions", and Dr. Claudia Gladzijewski (www.script-doctors.com) discussed whether plots, genres or characters have a chance to get accepted by both cultures equally.
The workshop will be held by Life Entertainment GmbH in cooperation with MAMI (Mumbai Academy of Moving Images) and is kindly supported by PRIMEHOUSE hosts the B2B platform "PRIMEXCHANGE" that keeps a focus on cooperation between the Indian and German film and media branches.
Requirements for submitted projects (all documents have to be submitted in English*):
A treatment or script (first draft) and additionally a synopsis, project notes of the producer and author as well as the author's and/or producer's curriculum vitae. Also, if you can't submit a script for your project yet, we need a script from an earlier work (it doesn't need to have been produced or commissioned; it is only to exemplify your script writing abilities).
*) German applicants may first submit their projects in German. However, if your project is chosen, all documents also need to be submitted in English until January 26th, 2012. Projects from authors without a producer will also be accepted.
You can submit projects for movies suitable for TV or cinema. Aside from the quality of the contents, it is essential that the project has a recognizable market value and potential for a coproduction and co-financing with India. Also accepted are projects to be shot or distributed in India, or such meant to have an Indian co-author, director, or cast. The projects will be chosen by Life Entertainment and PRIMEHOUSE. Decisions will be announced two weeks before the workshop at the latest.
